A Prayer for Flavor
Spicy God,
In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus proclaimed we are the Salt for the earth,
but sometimes it feels like those who follow Jesus have lost their saltiness.
Sometimes it feels like we’ve lost any flavor.
Blandness.
Boring.
Passionless.
Start shaking us up, God.
Help us recapture the flavor we once had
and discover new flavors.
Just like picky eaters can grow into adventurous eaters,
let us grow into adventurous Jesus followers
who are seeking out different flavors in the world
and who are constantly adjusting our seasoning each time we taste your Love.
We are the salt for the earth.
We can also be the pepper, the cumin, the saffron, the sugar, the curry powder,
the soy, the cocoa powder, the basil leaf.
Let our lives become a rich stew where individual flavors can be tasted
but where all the flavors works together to make a beautiful, filling meal. Amen.
