While preparing a service with the main scripture being John 11:1-44 (the death and resurrection of Lazarus) I could not find many hymns I liked. So I wrote my own.  You can download the hymn lyrics here. The tune is SLANE and is most famous for “Be Thou My Vision.” The hymn is titled “Lazarus Grew Ill in Bethany Town” and is a poetic re-telling of the story. I’m happy for others to use the hymn as long as the lyrics are attributed to me. I hope someone else out there needs a hymn like this.

Take a listen to verse 3

3. “Lord, if you had been here he would have not died!”
Mar-tha hung her head down as Mar-y cried.
“Still I know God will do what you ask;
You the Mes-si-ah I trust with this task.”
